29 March 2011

So excited about the Study, remember this used to be our front door.

Shane and I doing our daily coffee walk and talk.

The old lounge wall has been taken down.

Our Crumbling Bricks

Warren our Builder says our bricks were put together by mud, and the bricks are so old they just crumble under the slightest touch. Here is a video of Terryn gently tapping the bricks.

March 25

Second floor level now.

It's all looking very real.

Next week is going to be awesome.

March 24

The walls are flying up.

See my little lounge window!

My lounge.

Front door.

Bathroom and closet almost separate. The pic on the right is the start of our Study.

23 March 2011

Another rainy day, but this didn't stop our awesome team of builders!

The top left shows our steel lintel to hold up the second floor, the old wall under it should be coming out  soon.

Top right our lounge window.

Dividing the old scullery to become the en-suite and walk in closet.

I am really getting excited now. I love all the dirt and noise! Strange, I really thought I would battle with it.

22 March 2011

Yesterday was a public holiday, so another short week ahead of us.

The Smith boys helping again.

Lounge coming on nicely.

On the left, Terryn's room is getting some plumbing pipes put in to get to the Guest room.
Right is the kids bathroom getting their pipes too.

17 March 2011

The lounge floor has been successfully thrown, now the walls start going up.

That's the kitchen wall that is coming out the side, it doesn't look like we will be gaining much but because the old wall is 4 bricks wide, we end up gaining - enough to allow us space for a kitchen island counter unit in the middle of the kitchen.

16 March 2011

Today is our wedding anniversary, so Shane and I went off to our retreat in the mountains.

Debbie took these pics, apparently the boys were beside themselves with excitement.

This is what Shane and I were doing.....

An amazing day all round!

Day 12

Taxi's are striking so only Innocent and Binky came to work today.

Breaking through to the kitchen.

Kitchen wall being prepared to come out. Basically the brick is so old when you rub it turns to sand. Very scary.

Extra builders have been asked to come and help.

Wall being prepared for demolition. Rubble was removed. Slow day.

Week 3 (1 month later)

There was high-fiving all round when we heard that building would start again.

We placed stones with blessings written on them in the foundation trenches. These stones had positive words for the home and it's future inhabitants.

Our neighbours (Smiths) and our very good friends from down the road (Rudlings) both wrote on stones.

In go the foundations.

Coming out into the Smiths side.

Down comes the wall.

Lego's garden has doubled!

The ground pounded to submission.

On the left our en-suite on the right walk in closet.

Window being broken through in our bedroom.

So that is the end of just 11 days of building, quite impressive.

Week 2 (but only 1 day really)

Monday started really well with the foundations for the new lounge being dug.

And then disaster...the inspector came an demanded tools to be put down as the garage plans had not been approved yet. (Which is why we hadn't started doing it in the first place) But he just would hear none of it. So we had to wait for council that were also going through renovations to pass our garage. But that took a month.

So we waited.........

Week 1

31 January, the long awaited builders arrive.

My new bathroom window!
New doorway to our bedroom.
Doorway to en-suite bathroom.

Upstairs bathroom gutted!
What you see as you reach the top of the stairs.
Terryn's bedroom window being bricked up.
An exciting start to week 1!
